TÄHTIPORTTI-SYMBOLI – THE STARGATE SYMBOL (Tähtiportti – Stargate)

Tähtiportin toimintaperiaate on seuraava: jokainen Tähtiportin symboli kuvastaa jotakin paikkaa avaruudessa. Kun kuusi niistä koodataan peräkkäin, näiden paikkojen risteyskohta on syntyvän madonreiän kohde. Seitsemäs symboli kertoo madonreiän lähtöpisteen. Maan symboli (ja täten maasta lähdettäessä viimeinen kirjattava symboli) muistuttaa Å-kirjainta ja on Tähtiportti-ohjelman tunnus. Itse käytin symbolia lukion geometrian tunneilla kuvaamaan sitä asiaa, joka tehtävässä yritettiin selvittää. Muut kohteet olivat sitten tylsästi x, y ja z, mutta nörtillä on hauskempaa matikantunnillakin.

The Stargate works as follows: each symbol in the Gate represents some place in space. When you code six of them in, the place in the middle of these places is the destination of the wormhole being created. The seventh symbol tells the origin point of the wormhole. The symbol for Earth (and thus the last symbol coded in when leaving Earth) resembles the letter Å (Swedish O) and is the insignia for the Stargate program. I used this symbol in high school geometry classes to mark whatever was supposed to be found. Everything else was just x, y, or z but nerds always have more fun, even during math lectures.
