RONJA, MATIAS JA LOVIISA – RONJA, MATTIS & LOVIS (Ronja, ryövärintytär – Ronja, the Robber’s Daughter)

Ronja, ryövärintytär (kuten aika monet muutkin hyvät tarinat) on luultavasti aika erilainen jos sen lukee lapsena kuin jos sen lukee aikuisena, jolla ehkä itsellään on lapsia. Lapsille se on hauska kertomus ystävyydestä ja kesän viettämisestä villissä luonnossa. Aikuiselle ehkä jää mieleen paremmin se, miten Ronjan isän Matiaksen epäluulot Ronjan ystävää Birkiä kohtaan on vähällä hajottaa koko perheen, ja kuinka paljon Ronja, Matias ja Loviisa kaipaavat toisiaan. Onneksi Loviisa on hyvä ja ajattelevainen äiti (ja vaimo, joka laittaa ryövärikuningas Matiaksenkin järjestykseen) ja Matiaskin lopulta tajuaa, että perhe ja rakkaus ovat tärkeämpiä kuin vanhat kaunat – jotka nekin voivat muuttua kunnioitukseksi ja ystävyydeksi.

Ronja, the Robber’s Daughter (like pretty many other good stories, too) is a very different story if you read it as a child compared to if you’re reading it as a adult, maybe one with their own children. For kids, it’s a fun story of friendship and spending the summer in the wild woods. For an adult, what stays in mind might be how Ronja’s father’s, Mattis’, prejudice towards Ronja’s friend Birk nearly tears the family apart, and how much Ronja, Mattis and Lovis miss each other. Luckily, Lovis is a good mother who thinks of everything (and a wife who even keeps the Robber King Mattis in line) and in the end Mattis, too, realizes that family and love are more important than old grudges – and even they can turn into respect and friendship.
