Toisen maailmansodan aikoihin Lontoosta lähetettiin lapsia maalle sodan pommituksia pakoon. C. S. Lewisin luo lähetettiin myös muutamia lapsia sodalta turvaan, ja siitä hän sai ajatuksen kirjoittaa kirjan – joka ei juurikaan kertonut sodasta tai pommituksista, vaan vaatekaapista löytyneestä maailmasta ja neljästä sisaruksesta, jotka lähtivät sitä tutkimaan. Tietenkään kaikki ei ole aina onnea ja auvoa, kun on sisaruksista kyse, mutta lopulta he päätyivät hallitsemaan vaatekaapista löytämäänsä maailmaa kaikki yhdessä sulassa sovussa.

Around Ward War II children were sent away from London because of the bombings. Some children were sent to C. S. Lewis for some time, and this inspired him to write a story – that didn’t really tell about war or bombings but of a world found in a wardrobe and four siblings who set out to explore it. Of course not everything goes smoothly and happily when you’ve got siblings involved, but in the end they rule the world they found all together in peace and harmony.
