KATHRYN JANEWAY & TUVOK (Star Trek Voyager)

Yksi suosikkiasioistani Voyagerissa on kapteeni Janewayn ja hänen turvallisuuspäällikkönsä Tuvokin ystävyys. Siinä ei nimittäin ole pätkän vertaa romantiikkaa, vaan se on kahden sellaisen henkilön ystävyyttä, jotka ovat kokeneet yhdessä kaikenlaisia vaaroja ja jotka kunnioittavat toisiaan niin paljon, että eivät epäröi hetkeäkään, kun toiselle pitää kertoa, että tämä on väärässä. Voygerin tarina muuten alkaa alkaa ja loppuu Tuvokin ja Janewayn ystävyyden takia: ensimmäisessä jaksossa Janeway haluaa löytää kadonneen ystävänsä Tuvokin, minkä takia Voyger miehistöineen päätyy eksyksiin 75000 valovuoden päähän kotoa – ja viimeisessä jaksossa Voyager pääsee kotiin, kun Janeway on valmis hurjaan uhkapeliin pelastaakseen Tuvokin. Kuva on viittaus jaksoon Fury, jossa Janeway saa viimein selville Tuvokin syntymäpäivän – mutta ei sitä, kuinka monta vuotta hän täyttää.

One of my favorite things in Voyager is the friendship between captain Janeway and her security officer Tuvok. There’s absolutely no romance there, it’s just a pure friendship between two people who have been through all sorts of dangers together and who respect each other so much they don’t hesitate at all if they feel they need to tell the other one off. Voyager’s story both begins and ends because of Tuvok and Janeway’s friendship: in the first episode Janeway wants to find her friend Tuvok who has gone missing which causes the Voyager and its crew to end up 75000 light years from home – and in the final episode Voyager finds its way back home after Janeway’s dangerous gamble to save Tuvok. The picture refers to the episode Fury where Janeway finally finds out when Tuvok’s birthday is – but not how old he is.
